Bird Services

Budgies, cockatiels, parrots, and songbirds tend to live longer when they receive regular veterinary care. Birds are good at hiding signs of illness, so if you notice your bird is acting unusual or something doesn’t seem right, call us at 519-972-9000 as soon as possible.

How often should I bring my bird in for a check-up?

We recommend that you bring your bird in for an initial checkup, then stop by once a year to ensure they remain healthy. Some birds require more frequent visits. We will check your bird’s beak, nails, and feathers during the exam to determine if they require any attention. Regular exams can help us catch diseases and problems early on when they are easier and less expensive to treat.

How do I know if my bird needs medical care?

A bird that doesn’t groom itself properly, appears ruffled, or has unkempt or missing feathers is probably sick. Other signs your bird might need medical care include changes in eating or sleeping habits, difficulty breathing, and abnormal droppings. The best way to know is to bring them in to see one of our veterinarians who can accurately diagnose and provide a treatment plan tailored to their needs.

What bird services does your hospital offer?

Our hospital is fully equipped to offer a variety of treatments. Some of the services we provide include nutritional counselling, health assessments, grooming assistance, sexing, fecal parasite testing, medical and surgical services, and annual physicals. In addition, we can discuss general care, disease prevention, safety, appropriate housing and toys, and breeding.
