Dermatology

Treating allergies, parasites, and other conditions which can affect your pet's skin.

Taking care of your pet’s skin is a step that shouldn’t be missed in their healthcare routine. Skin problems are common in dogs and cats and can be caused by hormonal disorders, allergies, infections, or parasites such as fleas and mites. These issues can be difficult to treat, which is why early detection makes a world of difference. To learn more about our dermatology services, call us at 519-972-9000.

How do I know if my pet has a skin issue?

We can often diagnose a skin problem by simply performing a physical exam of your pet. A great way to keep an eye out for changes to your pet’s skin at home is by brushing their coat routinely. This can help you spot any bumps, sores or problem areas. Common skin issues that your pet may be experiencing include parasites such as ticks or food and environmental allergies. Signs that your pet may have a skin issue include:

  • Excessive scratching
  • Scabs or scaling
  • Bald patches or fur loss
  • Redness
  • Smelly fur
  • Lumps or bumps

What tests will you perform on my pet?

Some dermatologic diseases or conditions require additional diagnostic procedures to ensure a correct diagnosis. Depending on your pet’s symptoms and the results of our physical exam, for further analysis, we may perform:

  • Bloodwork
  • Urinalysis
  • Skin scraping
  • Biopsies
