Small Mammals

From routine check-ups to specialized care, we're here to help.

Just because they’re small doesn’t mean they can’t benefit from veterinary attention. Small mammals need just as much care and attention as other pets. Our veterinary team is fully equipped and available to meet all your pocket pet’s health and medical needs.

What is considered a small mammal/pocket pet?

This group of pets includes animals such as:

  • Guinea pigs
  • Hamsters
  • Hedgehogs
  • Mice or Rats
  • Gerbils
  • Chinchillas
  • Ferrets

How do I know if my small mammal needs medical care?

A general rule we recommend is bringing in your pet for a full veterinary exam once a year. That way we can monitor their health and diagnose any underlying conditions during their regular checkups. Due to their size, it may be difficult to notice any signs of discomfort or pain. If you notice any changes in your pet’s health or behaviour bring them in to see one of our veterinarians. Signs that your pet may need medical care include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Appears quieter than normal
  • Discharge from their eyes or nose
  • Lumps or sores
