Endoscopy

A non-invasive method for diagnosing issues within your pet's internal organs.

An endoscopy helps us diagnose the source of your pet’s discomfort in a safe and less-invasive way. With a better look at what’s happening inside your pet’s body, we can better understand how best to treat it. If you have any questions or concerns about our endoscopy services, please contact us at 519-972-9000.

Why would my pet need an endoscopy?

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows our veterinarian to see inside a pet’s body. When necessary, it can also be used to take biopsies (tissue samples) without having to perform surgery. An endoscopy procedure can also help retrieve swallowed items. Dr. Adam Deluca and Dr. Leanne Horsman are our resident endoscope doctors. With the help of our state-of-the-art, in-house endoscope, we can perform this as a scheduled procedure or during an emergency.

What happens during the procedure?

The veterinarian inserts the endoscope (a long tube with a camera at one end) into the area being examined. We will sedate your pet before the procedure. We will continually monitor your pet’s vital signs throughout the process to ensure their safety and comfort. Incisions are sometimes required, however, the incisions used for endoscopic procedures are considerably smaller than those used in traditional surgery. This means a much less painful and quicker recovery for your pet.
